Insomnia

the night falls
and before I notice it
I'm wrapped in the dark,
the dark that
extends to places I am unable to reach.
the silence echoes
in this lonely lit room
and I can sense the words
clearer here
with everyone else asleep.
It's happened again
the lamp flickers again
and there is a forest of trees,
an escape,
dancing in the shadows on the wall.
unable to sleep
because my body has memories
I don't wish to remember
asking me
how to separate dreams from dreams.
